Solace and Relief to the Flood Affected
The devastating flood in Kerala saw students ,teachers and the management of St. Peter’s step in to help the flood affected. A total of Rs. 17. 59 lakh went in from the school towards the post-flood relief. Books and stationery items were distributed to the students of selected schools in Ernakulam district . Besides about 200 kits worth Rs. 6.8 lakh , containing utensils, groceries, sanitation items and clothes were distributed in some of the worst hit areas like Koovappady, Paravoor, Kuttanadu, Kothadu , Ooramana, Allapra, Kalamassery etc.
Some of the school staff who lost their belongings were amply compensated along with the financial assistance from the management. Students contributed generously and were part of the distribution programmes. The operations were well coordinated after contacting local self-government authorities to ensure that items reached the most needy and affected.
A sum of Rs. 5 lakhs was contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. It was also a learning experience for students who got to know directly the trauma and sufferings of the people and could empathise with them.
